Remedies for Lupus

Lupus is any of several diseases (as systemic Lupus erythematosus) characterized by skin lesions. Lupus erythematosus is a disorder characterized by skin inflammation, especially Systemic lupus erythematosus.

The term Lupus comes from the Latin meaning ‘wolf’ and refers to the erythematous, red ulcerations on the face. It is an autoimmune disease. It affects different tissues and organs of the body. It is more common in women than in men.

The symptoms include, joint pain, skin rashes, mouth and nasal ulcers, eye problems, excessive fatigue, hair loss, anemia, gastrointestinal disorders, etc.

Remedies for Lupus that work-

Use Turmeric in cooking and take a pinch of Turmeric early in the morning. Curcuminoids, the active constituent of Curcuma, have an anti-inflammatory property; hence can be used in Lupus.

Reishi mushroom extract helps to boost immunity, so it is advisable.

Drink a lot of water daily.

Avoid eggplant, tomatoes and peppers.

Birth control pills may trigger Lupus, so avoid them.

Take a diet rich in Omega- 3 fatty acids.

Do not smoke.

While going outside, protect the body from harsh ultra violet rays. Use long pants, long sleeve shirts and an umbrella or a sun-shade.

Fish oil supplements can be taken, but in some cases they may produce nausea or belching as a side effect.

Pine Bark extract is advisable.

For Lupus, corticosteroids are often given, but this could lead to Osteoporosis. So to keep the bones strong, one should take Calcium supplements and Vitamin D with the consultation of a doctor.

Borage seed oil acts as an anti-inflammatory, diuretic, emollient, antioxidant and hence is useful to treat ‘Lupus’.

Minimize sexual activity.

Green tea is advisable, as the polyphenols, the active constituents of Green Tea, have an anti-inflammatory activity.

Avoid eating Bananas.

The combination of Guduchi, Ashwagandha and Shatavari is advisable.

For digestive problems in Lupus, take Triphala herbal supplements.

Decoction of Guduchi (Tinospora cordifolia) is advisable.

Rice water is advisable, but one must take it with the consultation of a doctor. Cook rice by adding excess water to it than the required quantity (Use unpolished rice for this). After the rice gets cooked, take the surplus water that remains on top of the cooked rice. This water is known as Rice Water. Drink a small cup of it, a couple of times a day.

Try to avoid working in stressful atmosphere and try to get sufficient sleep.

Eat salmon and sardines.

Avoid Alfalfa seeds and Sprouts.

Dehydroepiandrosterome (DHEA) helps to reduce the dose of steroids that a Doctor would recommend. So it is advisable to take these supplements. But regular use of DHEA supplement may raise the risk of Heart ailments.

The combination of Bacopa monnieri, Spikenard (Nardostachys jatamansi) is advisable to avoid anxiety and depression.
